Miss Figlia, Ready for Miss World 2014

Miss World Philippines 2014 Valerie Weigmann says she is looking forward to meeting the Filipino community in London.

When asked what advice reigning Miss World Megan Young gave her about that competition, the model and former Eat Bulaga co-host said: “ [She told me to] be focused. If you really want something, then give your best. But at the same time, be true to yourself.”

In a short chat with Rappler during her send-off, Valerie, who was crowned last October 12 at the Mall of Asia Arena, said that she has been busy preparing for the competition, as well as attending to her duties with the Miss World Philippines organization.

“One word – amazing! I am blessed to have everyone, all the supporters, and the awareness I was raising for my advocacy which was Musikaramay. I never thought that it could match with the right platform like Miss World Philippines,” she said.
As for the pressure for a back-to-back title, Valerie said that she is simply relaxing and looking forward to meeting all the delegates in London.

"I think the best thing to do is to relax and think that something amazing is going to happen. That’s actually that part where I relax already," she said.

The Miss World coronation will be on December 14.

Valerie Weigmann, Miss Figlia and Miss World Philippines 2014

October 12, 2014 proved to be a momentous day at the Mall of Asia Arena, as beauty pageant aficionados witnessed the coronation of Valerie Weigmann as Miss World Philippines 2014.

As successor to the throne, Valerie will vie for the title of Miss World in December.  Not without pressure to win, though, as Megan Young who was the Philippines’ representative last year managed to bag the Miss World 2013 crown- earning herself bragging rights as the first Filipino to win the title.

Valerie impressed the audience with her answer during the interview portion, when she was asked why she felt she should win the title.  She emphasized that empathy and giving makes one truly beautiful. "I try to live my life in relation to others, by putting myself into other people’s shoes”, she said.

Early on, Valerie was already a favorite, as she won Miss World CamSur in Camarines Sur September this year.

As for literally putting Valerie- and the other pageant contestants- in their own shoes, the people behind Figlia did an excellent job at providing the official footwear for Miss World Philippines 2014. Valerie Weigmann is Miss Figlia for this year.

As Megan Young, Miss Figlia 2013, relinquishes her crown, so the question begs: Will Valerie Weigmann live up to everybody’s expectations and win Miss World 2014?

Let’s wait and see.
